These are some suggestions that have helped me:
DO'S
 | DO Look up the symptoms of Depression. This will help you
distinguish what behaviors you can expect.. |
 | DO Have the depressed person get a complete medical exam,
thyroid function, hormone levels, Lymes disease, ect. (A lot of medical problems
mimic Depression.) |
 | DO Take some time, each week, and do some thing you enjoy.
Give yourself a little break. |
 | DO Take some time, each week, and do some thing together.
Go on a date. |
 | DO Encourage the depressed person to persue something they
enjoy. Wood working, painting, writing, anything they can do when they feel up to it. |
 | DO Help to eliminate stressors. |
DON'TS
 | DON'T Be discouraging, even though it may seem silly to
you. If it gives pleasure, go along with it. |
 | DON'T Use guilt. Remember this is a medical problem,
they can't just "Snap out of it". |
 | DON'T Be nosy. Everyone needs a personal life. |
